Anderson/LA, which provides leading national restaurants, retailers and Hollywood movie studios with offset print, digital print and fulfillment services, is one of the first companies in North America to operate three VUTEk GS5000r printers. The announcement was made at emerge® 2013, Consolidated Graphics’ annual customer solutions conference taking place April 30 through May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Several additional Consolidated Graphics companies around the country also operate VUTEk printers. And, the majority of Consolidated Graphics companies use print MIS software provided by EFI’s Productivity Software group, part of a relationship between CGX and EFI that extends back more than 15 years.

“The GS5000r’s width gives us the versatility we need, and all six of our machines are calibrated to each other to provide the same quality from multiple devices,” said Luke Westlake, President of Anderson/LA. “With our current footprint of EFI printers, we can run 15, five-foot rolls at a time to meet our customers’ most demanding production needs and produce any national out-of-home application.”

The ability to print materials consistently across multiple devices and locations has become increasingly important for national retailers, which tap Anderson/LA and its fellow Consolidated Graphics companies to fulfill signage and graphics needs across North America.

“Our customers who have hundreds or thousands of locations benefit from our investments in best-in-class digital production and color management technologies, which ensure high-quality brand color reproduction, with higher-volume productivity,” said James W. Hill, Executive Vice President, Technology and Procurement for Consolidated Graphics.

Premium quality and production flexibility

The superwide format VUTEk GS5000r roll-to-roll UV printer opens new doors for print shops that need the highest image quality for premium-margin applications, and production-level speeds for commercial graphics and long-term outdoor graphics. The flexible printer produces high-end point-of-purchase materials, high-speed billboards and everything in-between.

For color-critical, close-viewing indoor graphics used at retailers and restaurants Anderson/LA services, the VUTEk GS5000r offers ultra-high quality printing with resolutions up to 1,000 dots per inch. When producing durable prints needed in fleet graphics and other outdoor applications, the GS5000r also has the benefit of being the only five-meter UV printer that has its output covered by the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty when using co-branded EFI and 3M inks and printing on 3M flexible media.

“EFI has worked closely with Consolidated Graphics and Anderson/LA to deliver VUTEk UV inkjet offerings that provide a true competitive difference in superwide format printing capabilities,” said Scott Schinlever, senior vice president and general manager of EFI’s Inkjet Solutions. “The VUTEk GS5000r printer is an ideal platform to expand Consolidated Graphics’ national, high-end signage production offering.”

Anderson/LA also has the advantage of bi-directional communication between its VUTEk printers and EFI Fiery® raster image processors (RIPs) for better job processing and management. The robust processing capability speeds throughput for a number of jobs that come to Anderson/LA from other Consolidated Graphics companies, such as one-off posters and other products that require fast RIPing to keep Anderson/LA’s high-volume production operations running smoothly.

EFI™ announced that Dublin, Calif.-based AMP Printing purchased the EFI VUTEk® HS100 Pro UV inkjet press on display at the ISA International Sign Expo in Las Vegas.

FOSTER CITY, California, APRIL 10, 2013 – EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII), a world leader in customer-focused printing innovation, today announced that Dublin, Calif.-based AMP Printing purchased the EFI VUTEk® HS100 Pro UV inkjet press on display at the ISA International Sign Expo in Las Vegas.

AMP decided to add a new press to meet surging demand for superwide printing. Company Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Main selected EFI and the VUTEk HS100 Probased on the continuous innovation he sees from EFI and the positive experience his company had with a pair of VUTEk GS3250 UV inkjet printers.

“EFI is a very professional company that stands behind its equipment,” said Main. “Plus, EFI invests its money into R&D to strengthen its technology. The progress we have seen EFI make in the past few years with the development of the HS100 Pro proves it.”

“It was a thrill to start this year’s ISA Sign Expo with a sale to a company like AMP Printing, a company that is known for its thorough commitment to high-quality work,” said Scott Schinlever, senior vice president and general manager of EFI’s Inkjet Solutions.

The flexibility of digital, with image quality approaching offset

The new 3.2-meter wide press, which will be installed at AMP Printing’s facility this month, offers the productivity of screen printing, with image quality that approaches offset. The press’s fast speeds, as well as its flatbed and roll-to-roll printing capabilities, will help AMP further develop its growing superwide format revenue streams.

The HS100 printer’s speed will be especially beneficial on some of the work AMP produces for national retailers – targeted signage requiring quick and accurate output. The press also can meet the company’s stringent color management requirements – all of AMP Printing’s offset, digital production and proofing devices are configured to conform to the industry’s GRACoL 7 specification.

Building value with innovative, high-volume UV inkjet technology

The EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro is a versatile, high-speed digital UV press that offers print service providers (PSPs) a cost-effective digital platform to produce longer sheet runs. The press features EFI’s Pin & Cure imaging technology for precise ink lay-down for critical color accuracy and consistency, gloss control and an increased color gamut — all with the productivity and digital efficiencies needed to accommodate more versioning and localization.

Offering impressive throughput speeds of up to 100 boards per hour, the VUTEk HS100 Pro prints in up to eight colors, including white. True, variable-dot greyscale print head technology on the HS100 Pro helps PSPs maximize their ink yield while reducing their cost per print.

At AMP, the ability to print more high-quality work, with a lower total cost of ownership, is key to driving success in a challenging economic environment.
“Now is the time to invest in new technology – adding the VUTEk HS100 Pro is part of presenting a new vision for the future to our customers,” said Main. “Leading-edge businesses know that they need to boost productivity to thrive.”

In an actual retail implementation, most marketers will likely deploy multiple units to measure, compare and improve signage performance at different stores or at different in-store locations.

The SSA system’s webcam and software combination detects the presence of people within viewing range and determines which of them are actually viewing a sign. Eye-tracking tools on the SSA system also allow it to calculate how much time is spent viewing signage.

Beyond those useful metrics, the advanced SSA technology provides even more-detailed demographic information. Using advanced, proprietary facial pattern algorithms, the SSA system assigns a gender and age range to each viewer, providing a wealth of market-segment information that businesses cannot quickly or easily collect by any other means.

An embedded, failsafe routine in the software ensures that the SSA system discards facial pattern data on the fly, with no actual images of faces stored during operation.

SSA will enter beta testing this quarter. Visitors to EFI’s International Sign Expo booth can see an EFI SSA kiosk attached to a sign capturing and reporting live data.

EFI is featuring game-changing innovations at the ISA International Sign Expo, including wide and superwide format printing solutions that reduce print costs, reduce turnaround time and open the door to new opportunities.

FOSTER CITY, California – April 4, 2013 – EFI™ (Nasdaq:EFII), a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, is featuring game-changing innovations at the ISA International Sign Expo, including wide and superwide format printing solutions that reduce print costs, reduce turnaround time and open the door to new opportunities. The company’s technologies on display in booth #3721 include UV LED and advanced, high-speed HS inkjet production technologies that give print service providers (PSPs) the ability to profitably grow their businesses.

EFI’s products at Sign Expo, part of the industry’s most advanced lineup of UV digital printing and workflow management solutions, join additional, new offerings from EFI, including the company’s first inkjet inks for deep draw thermoforming and corrugated plastics applications, and 3M™ MCS™ Warranty-certified inks for VUTEk® GS Pro series printers.

“We are showing how EFI is the signage industry’s proven and trusted inkjet provider with innovations that open the door to greater profits and greater value,” said Scott Schinlever, senior vice president and general manager of EFI’s Inkjet Solutions. “At Sign Expo, industry professionals can see how we are expanding customers’ capabilities as well as how we make the whole print enterprise more productive with advanced workflow and MIS/ERP systems.”

The lineup of integrated, high-performance EFI UV printing and workflow management products at the International Sign Expo includes the:

EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro, a new, high-speed digital UV press available this quarter offering the productivity of screen printing and image quality approaching offset.

EFI VUTEk QS2 Pro, a 2-meter, UV hybrid printer that combines variable-drop grayscale printing and white ink print capabilities with VUTEk production speeds;

EFI VUTEk GS2000LX Pro, a printer that gives PSPs the ability to produce more applications on more substrates with LED UV-curing technology, white ink and grayscale printing;

EFI VUTEk GS3250r, a 3.2-meter, roll-to-roll UV printer with true 1,000 dpi capabilities to help PSPs expand to offer high-margin, closely viewed applications;

EFI R3225, an entry-level, UV roll-to-roll printer, shown in the Nazdar booth (#4121), that features output quality, substrate access and pricing that are unrivaled in its category;

EFI H652, an entry-level, wide format hybrid printer, also in the Nazdar booth, offering near-photographic UV image quality and affordability;

New Fiery® XF Version 5 with Web Control Center, a flexible and scalable high-speed digital front end and color management workflow for wide- to superwide-format production and proofing;

SmartSign Analytics (SSA) technology demonstration, a new tool developed by EFI Online Print Solutions that captures and reports analytic data on signage viewership to help marketers measure the effectiveness of their efforts.

PSPs using these solutions are decreasing their turnaround times and increasing their competitiveness in a variety of markets. One PSP, Portland, Ore.-based PVS In-Store Graphics, is seeing these types of advantages with its new VUTEk HS100 Pro installation.

“The HS100 is a game-changer for PVS,” said PVS Co-owner Nick Olson. ”The economy is really turning around and this printer is exactly what our clients need: quality at a great price point.”

In addition to inkjet printing technologies at Sign Expo, attendees will also see how they can eliminate touch points in their workflow, reduce waste, improve communication and maximize capacity utilization using EFI’s industry-leading workflow and MIS/ERP products, including PrintSmith™ Vision business management software, Pace™ MIS technology and the Digital StoreFront® web-to-print platform. EFI’s booth features live demonstrations of its integrated inkjet workflow solutions, with production moving from Digital StoreFront through Pace to a Fiery XF digital front end and a VUTEk superwide-format printer.

New EFI solution saves time over manual decoration steps

Printed and formed samples at ISA for EFI’s new thermoforming inks show how PSPs can digitally print thermoplastic sheets for subsequent forming into custom signs, P-O-P displays, vending/gaming panels and a host of consumer product and industrial applications, eliminating costly and time-consuming screen printing, hand-painting and vinyl lettering processes for thermoformed object decoration. The inks are designed for the new EFI VUTEk GS3250 Pro-TF and GS2000 Pro-TF printers, specially modified versions of the GS Pro models.

The new, patented eight-color plus white inks provide excellent adhesion and outstanding retention of hue and opacity on both first- and second-surface deep-draw thermoformed applications, withstanding post-process heat forming, cutting and routing without chipping, cracking or flaking. Users also get the proven benefits of the EFI VUTEk GS Pro printer platform, with imaging resolutions up to 1,000 dpi and EFI’s variable-drop grayscale technology.

EFI is also announcing the development of new inks for corrugated plastic printing. The inks solve inkjet adhesion problems that have previously limited digital printing’s presence in the popular market for yard signs and other corrugated plastic products. The inks are compatible with all brands of white corrugated polypropylene, and will run on new VUTEk GS2000 Pro-CP and GS3250 Pro-CP printers, giving PSPs the ability to leverage the VUTEk GS Pro hybrid printer platform’s high image quality and productivity.

Another new offering announced at the International Sign Expo, EFI VUTEk GS 3M™ Premium UV Inks for EFI VUTEk GS Pro series printers, gives GS Pro users the important benefit of the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty, which covers fading, cracking peeling and other aspects of graphic performance for the life of the graphic. Co-branded EFI and 3M inks for the VUTEk GS2000, GS3200, GS3250, GS3250r, GS5000r and EFI R3225 printers all qualify for the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty. The 3M™ MCS™ Warranty for VUTEk GS2000LX and GS3250LX LED UV-curing printers will be available in the near future.

“For almost 150 years Fredrix has been the standard in the art market. It is an honor for us to partner with a company and product that has such a unique, rich history and a reputation for quality and workmanship in its canvas,” says Alex Ried, LexJet product manager.

Since that time, LexJet has developed a wide-ranging portfolio of digital imaging products for its customers, and carries top brands that address each aspect of the digital workflow.
