Montreal-Area Print Provider’s Purchase Follows Recent Installation of Rho 900

BOISBRIAND, Quebec,16 January, 2012 – Imagerie DB, one of Montreal’s most dynamic print providers for high-quality fashion retail campaigns, recently acquired a five-meter Durst Rho 500R Superwide Roll-to-Roll Inkjet Printer to handle its biggest, most complex projects requiring multiple types of output. The company’s new purchase comes on the heels of the installation of a new Rho 900 Large-Format UV Inkjet Printer.

Founded by brothers Benoit and Denis Paquette, Imagerie DB is well known among Canada’s most prominent and demanding retailers. It offers clients a wide variety of solutions – from eye-level point-of-purchase pieces to vehicle and building wraps, from banners and billboards to posters and floor graphics – on virtually every media and substrate currently available. With the Rho 500R, complemented by the Rho 900, the company is enhancing its ability to offer cutting-edge digital output on time and on budget.

“Imagerie DB is respected for providing our clients with the latest, most creative and effective graphics and visual communications solutions,” Benoit Paquette said. “The Rho 500R, because of its versatility, range and quality, will help us strengthen this reputation with our clients. And it will make our operations more responsive and efficient – it is a highly efficient, highly productive machine. We fully expect that’s its operation and reliability will be as good as our Rho 900, and we have been very pleased with that printer.”

The award-winning Rho 500R prints six-color, 600-dpi images on vinyl, mesh and other superwide roll media at speeds up to 3,760 s.f./hr. It also prints three independent images from three separate job queues on three different 1.6-meter rolls all at the same time to achieve high efficiency and handle a broader range of applications. The Rho 500R operates unattended, uses less ink than comparable superwide platforms, and minimizes operational costs due to its high productivity, advanced workflow and remarkable versatility.

The 98-inch-wide Rho 900 combines efficient automated media handling and “process color additions” with high-speed printing capabilities – up to 2,400 s.f./hr. – to deliver high productivity and a broader color gamut. Its sophisticated media handling system employs an auto-feed table with belts, sheet feed gate with guides for parallel board printing and automatic two-point pin registration system to ensure accurate front-to-back registration.

“Imagerie DB is a premier creative digital printer in North America, and we’re extremely pleased to have them as a Durst customer,” said Christopher Howard, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Durst U.S. “We’re finding that, more and more, the print providers who are on top of this industry with the best solutions and the best operations are choosing Durst.”

Commercial Printer Sees Great Growth Potential in Point of Purchase Display Graphics

VALHALLA, NY, January 4, 2012 — Unigraphic, Inc. of Woburn, Massachusetts was seeing more demand for large format graphic point of purchase (POP) displays and found themselves at a crossroads. According to Bob Quinlan, president of Unigraphic, “We were pushing the limits of our existing large format equipment. We were handling the increasing workload, but just barely. It was beginning to cost us money in terms of limited capacity and low margins due to our cost structure. It was time to move forward, to make the right investment that would get us to that next level.”

Known for their high quality and excellent customer service, Unigraphic has been in the printing business for over 47 years providing commercial print services, digital printing and mailing services to an extensive client base of local, regional and national brands and retailers. Their large format business was largely in billboards and banners, but recently their customers were asking more and more for point of purchase display graphics.

Brian Hegan, sales manager at Unigraphic summed up the challenges Unigraphic faced. “We’ve had a steady business with many large retailers who are headquartered in New England, doing a lot of offset work, and some large format work. Then we started to see a lot more demand for high quality display graphics and POP. Our existing equipment just couldn’t keep up with the increased demand.” Hegan gave an example of a POP job for a popular retail fashion chain that required 24” x 36” and 22” x 28” posters. “That job would take 40 hours of press time and would tie up the shop for a week or more, which meant turning away other jobs.”

“We all agreed that point of purchase was the future for Unigraphic,” Bob Quinlan said, “the new jobs our customers were asking us for were POP. We were missing out on jobs because we couldn’t handle the work load or be competitive, that’s when we decided we were going to make investments in large format equipment to improve our capabilities and aggressively go after the POP business.”

Quinlan and his two brothers, Chief Operations Manager Mike and Executive Vice President Jack, started looking for a solution. “We looked at everything out there,” Bob Quinlan said, “and the Inca Onset S40 from Fujifilm just blew everyone else away, with the best quality, the highest speed and the most up-to-date technology.” The Inca Onset S40 with automation will produce 94 full-sized (63” x 123.6”) high-quality prints per hour, or 292 – 40” x 60” sheets per hour. “With the S40, those jobs that used to take a week, will take only hours to produce, and cost half as much,” Hegan said. “The Inca S40 not only gives us the capacity, it will enable us to turn jobs faster and be more competitively priced.”

Hegan also plans to expand the work Unigraphic is doing for its existing customer base. “We have one large retail client that we do all of their offset print work, but we’re not getting the large format and POP. With the S40’s print quality and speed, that’s an ideal account for us now. We can handle all of their needs.” Hegan also expects to win new business. “We’re accepting RFP’s now that we had to pass on before, and we’re able to take on more work from new accounts,” Hegan said. “Print buyers who we couldn’t help before are now asking us to provide proposals. The word is getting out about our new capabilities with the S40, and we expect we will win a lot of new business.”

Unigraphic is planning an open house to showcase their new capabilities. “A lot of printers don’t like customers in the plant, but we love it,” Hegan said. “Our plant shows very well and we’re proud of it. Buyers who come in to see what we do and how we do it often give us opportunities to quote new business.”

“This is a game changer for Unigraphic,” Bob Quinlan said. “Not many other shops will have the equipment we have in one building or the capabilities—we now have the advantage over other print providers and expect to capitalize on the opportunity.”

Higher Quality, Lower Cost Provides the Competitive Edge for Jarob, Inc.

VALHALLA, NY, November 28, 2011 — When asked the secret of Jarob’s success, Doug VanPortfleet, chairman and CEO of Jarob, Inc. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, said, “To offer our customers better quality for less money, and to stay ahead of the competition.” Investing in the latest digital technology has enabled Jarob to fulfill that promise.

Jarob Inc. has been in business for 41 years, starting out as a fabricator of architectural signage and graphics. Jarob’s business philosophy is to invest in technology to grow the business, so they have continually invested in new digital printing equipment since 1998. Initially equipped with three roll fed solvent printers, Jarob brought in its first UV flatbed digital inkjet printer in 2005 and six months later invested in an Inca Spyder from Fujifilm. Pleased with the performance and productivity of the Inca Spyder platform, they added an Inca Columbia Turbo to further increase capacity as they continued to grow the business.

“Jarob has a very aggressive growth strategy,” said VanPortfleet. “We don’t want to be reactive, we want to be the leader. We don’t want to chase the competition, we want them to have to chase us.” So Jarob set out to find the best wide format digital inkjet printer for their business, looking at all available options in high speed, high productivity, and high quality platforms, ultimately selecting a 6-color Inca Onset S40 with automation. “We looked at everyone in the market,” said VanPortfleet, “and the Inca Onset S40 had the best productivity for the price and best cost per print. I wanted to invest in the next step up in technology and productivity and the Onset S40 simply outperformed the competition.”

“The S40 gives us the advantage in the 500 – 750 impressions range,” said Andrew Bishop, director of sales, marketing, and design at Jarob. “We now have the ability to go after jobs we may not have bid on before, or jobs where our pricing could not be competitive.”

Jarob’s plan also included bringing outsourced work back in house. They realized an immediate benefit and a boost to their ROI when they began to reclaim jobs they were outsourcing. “From a sales perspective, we were outsourcing a lot of work to screen printers. The S40 allowed us to go after more of that business and bring it back in-house. We’ve brought about 80% of the outsourced work back already,” Bishop said. The Inca Onset S40 has given Jarob a four-fold increase in capacity, faster turnaround, and more competitive pricing, and they plan to take full advantage of their new capabilities. “We plan to offer more services to our existing customers, and to gain market share,” Bishop said. “My goal is to fill the S40 up as fast as possible.”

Shortly after the Inca Onset S40 was up and running, Jarob held an open house to introduce the new machine and its capabilities to customers and employees. “It was a chance for everyone to see the samples and see the print quality,” VanPortfleet said. “Seeing it live gave it a real ‘wow’ factor.” Customers were very impressed with the speed of the machine as the automation system stacked up sample after sample. “We ran the S40 side by side with the Turbo, and it was eye opening to see how much faster the Onset prints. We explained to everyone that jobs that took a week to run on the Columbia Turbo were produced in a day on the Onset. Everyone could immediately see the impact it would have on our business.”

VanPortfleet continued, “Once we started to send out samples to prospective customers, things really picked up. There was much more interest coming in, more quotes going out, and we received many more sample requests. We are changing conventional thinking about both quality and price with the S40. The Inca Onset S40 definitely opened a door to increased business for us,” VanPortfleet said. “We let everyone in the area know about our new S40 and the spectacular work we were doing. Customers who previously said they were happy with their current supplier saw our samples and now want to talk to us.”

The investment in the Inca Onset S40 positively affected the sales team and the company’s employees. Bishop said, “Our team was very motivated by the purchase, we felt that if management was willing to make that level of investment in us, and believe in our ability to sell, we weren’t going to let them down. We’re seeing more customers this year than we have in other years combined, and we’re aggressively promoting Jarob and its new capabilities. Jarob was once a well-kept secret, but not anymore. We’re confident the S40 is going to help us grow and expand the range of customers we service.”

Costa Mesa, California (PRWEB) November 29, 2011 – Primary Color is very excited about their new partnership with AGFA/Thieme and the purchase of the new :M-Press Tiger. This hybrid press utilizes digital print technology for 4 color process with an inline silkscreen unit. The :M-Press Tiger is the only hybrid printing press in North America with an optional inline screen printing unit that can print primers, varnish, spot color, gold, silver and white printing as well as thermal scratch-’n-sniff inks with no loss in productivity.

At 175 impressions per hour and a print area of 62” x 102“, the :M-Press Tiger can handle any size job, in short order, on virtually any substrate that can be sheeted, and measures between 0.007”and 0.39” thickness (80# cover paper stock to 1/8” thick substrates). Variable data workflows are integrated with the :M-Press allowing Primary to include variable data elements for the Packaging and POP markets.

As digital printing technology improves with quality and speed, the gap is closing between digital, screen and lithography. Primary Color strives to meet their clients needs for bigger, faster, better, and they evaluated the available options in the marketplace for digital, screen and litho. They saw the :M-Press Tiger as a perfect match for them.

“Our initial test prints had a smooth ink lay down and the reds are the best I have seen in a long time. The press is color managed to a G7 environment and to all our other devices. I have to say the :M-Press is amazing and I believe it is going to change the print world,” mentioned Dan Hirt, Primary’s President.

Primary Color will be a hosting an Open House this December 8th from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and is free for anyone who would like to attend. Those who want to learn more about the :M-Press Tiger or want to tour Primary’s industry pioneering print facility are encouraged to register here.

As a print service provider, Belitec specializes in wide-format inkjet printing and laminating for display graphics.

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — The number 3 figures prominently in the Belitec Inc. corporate logo, signifying the three legs of the company’s business structure. Digital printing is one of those legs. Architectural drawings and surveying instruments constitute the other two legs.

As a print service provider, Belitec specializes in wide-format inkjet printing and laminating for display graphics. The Screen Truepress Jet2500UV is elevating the essentials to improve the image detail and color consistency on a surprising array of projects and substrates.

“Our print quality was always quite strong, but the print quality with the Truepress Jet2500UV is far superior to what we had been able to produce,” said Jean-Philippe Laliberté, printing and prepress operator. “The definition is noticeably improved. Images are sharper, cleaner and more vibrant.”

Belitec has been doing business in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, since 1982. The company established a niche providing fast turnarounds on outdoor and indoor signs, point-of-purchase displays, banners and back-lit signage. Numerous short-run projects, many as short as one or two large storefront signs, move quickly through the Belitec shop in a day. Same-day or next-day turnarounds are pretty much the norm.

“We chose the Truepress Jet2500UV to replace a 6-year-old wide-format printer from another manufacturer,” Laliberté said. “It was a slower machine, and it really wasn’t up to speed either in terms of print quality. We compared different machines and ran many different test prints on some of our favorites. Overall, the Truepress Jet2500UV produced the most impressive prints.”

Belitec’s customers benefit from the Truepress Jet2500UV’s fast print speed and photo-quality, high-impact graphics. The Truepress Jet2500UV achieves production speeds up to 366 square feet per hour. Image quality rivals that of offset printing thanks to the eight-level grayscale printing heads and maximum output resolution of 1,500 dpi.

Print jobs at Belitec are evenly split between roll-fed and rigid materials. Even with scheduling jobs according to their media to minimize changeovers, Belitec switches back and forth from flexible to rigid substrates sometimes seven times in a day. Prints are instantly dry and ready for use. Screen’s flexible UV inks do not crack when the printed piece is bent or stretched.

“The inks adhere extremely well to the various rigid and flexible substrates we use,” Laliberté said. “The Truepress Jet2500UV delivers excellent results on vinyl, static cling, fabric, acrylic, foam core, corrugated plastic — so many types of media. The machine handles the media changes smoothly.”

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Front and center in the Screen (USA) booth at SGIA Expo 2011, to be held October 19-21 in New Orleans, will be the Truepress Jet2500UV. The award-winning grand-format UV inkjet printer will anchor Screen’s integrated product offerings for sign makers and display producers, including workflow, Web-to-print and finishing solutions.

One of Screen’s most exciting printing technologies, the 98.4-inch Truepress Jet2500UV prints detailed, vibrant and extremely durable output. Designed to handle roll-fed and rigid media, it prints on paper, film and textiles, as well as metal, wood and plastic.

The Truepress Jet2500UV delivers 1,500 dpi resolution using a true eight-level grayscale variable pattern with 6 to 42 picoliter drops. The advanced physical properties of Screen’s TruepressInk produce industry-leading adhesion on acrylic sheets, ceramics and stone. Once exposed to UV light, the brightly colored, ultrafine inks are very stable and will not fade, even on such non-standard substrates as denim and leather.

Standout features of Truepress Jet2500UV

Ideal for billboards, vehicle wraps, posters, transit advertising and exhibits

Print see-through graphics without having to rely on perforated window film

Able to print up to seven image layers in one pass

CMYK in the standard configuration, plus optional Lc, Lm and white inks

Minimal setup time and maintenance-free operation for maximum throughput

The Truepress Jet2500UV integrates seamlessly with the Wastach SoftRIP TX Gold Edition workflow. Wastach SoftRIP TX Gold Edition enables higher color matching precision and more reliable data throughput while also streamlining postpress tasks.

Screen (USA) continuously broadens its relationships with reliable vendor partners. Files printed live at SGIA Expo on the Truepress Jet2500UV will be processed with the Zünd G3 Digital Cutter. Zünd cutters eliminate bottlenecks in the finishing department by automating all cutting and trimming functions.

Users of the Truepress Jet2500UV can deploy the software needed for customized branded storefronts. At SGIA Expo, Screen will highlight Online Print Solution’s OrderDesk, a catalog-style, online corporate storefront. OrderDesk enables printing firms’ clients to select template items, such as banners, signs, POP displays, brochures and newsletters, from a predefined list. Nexjob, a job submission and quoting tool aimed at non-template items, converts end users’ artwork files into PDFs for proofing, approval and price quoting.

Screen (USA) will demonstrate the Truepress Jet2500UV at SGIA Expo 2011 in booth #2511, October 19-21 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

Accura Glass Bending, Inc. has earned a reputation for creativity and innovation in the uniquely specialized but growing world of architectural glass products.

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Accura Glass Bending, Inc. has earned a reputation for creativity and innovation in the uniquely specialized but growing world of architectural glass products. After extensive research into available grand-format inkjet printers, the Concord, Ontario-based firm acquired the Screen Truepress Jet2500UV hybrid printing system to print directly onto glass sheets.

“Other flatbed and hybrid printing devices simply could not compare to the Truepress Jet2500UV in meeting our production needs,” said Brian Medinski, president. “The Truepress Jet2500UV allows us to print all manner of colors, images and textures on large sheets of glass.”

Established in 2000, Accura Glass creates elegant store fixtures, glass wall dividers and one-of-a-kind assemblies used by some of North America’s best-known brands. Accura Glass has done work for Tiffany’s, Prada and Holt Renfrew, among other familiar names. The company employs 20 people and generates $4 million in annual revenue.

Accura Glass co-founders Brian Medinski and Grigorii Khizguiiaev, who are both expert glass fabricators, have invented new tools and techniques to produce stunning bent glass, custom-laminated glass and UV-bonded showcases. With their new printing line, they are now able to produce custom imagery on the glass, which they then laminate to the interlayer making it a safety glass as well as to protect the image by encapsulating it.

A major market that Accura Glass has targeted is storefront glass typically seen in shopping malls and office buildings. Many such projects call for glass sheets up to 14 feet tall. Mr. Medinski said this size glass eliminated flatbed style printing systems from consideration.

“The flatbed systems we looked at could not accommodate the huge size,” he explained.

Then Accura Glass encountered another limitation in existing printing technology: a narrow field of high-resolution hybrid printers on the market.

“The high output resolution was the deciding factor in the Truepress Jet2500UV’s favor,” Mr. Medinski said. “Some of our projects require extremely high tolerances for text and line art. At 1,500 dpi, the resolution of the Truepress gives us the detail and crisp edges our clients require for fine-line imagery.”

Investment Offers Additional Value to Customers and the Ability to Compete for New Business

VALHALLA, NY, October 17, 2011 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division today announced that McCoy Printing of Torrington, Connecticut has installed an Inca Onset S40 wide format UV inkjet printer to boost efficiencies, increase output quality, speed up job turnaround, and lower cost for their customers. McCoy, a family-owned business since 1998, specializes in screen, offset, and wide format digital printing, producing the most demanding POP and outdoor campaigns.

“We believe in employing the latest technology to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency in the printing process,” said Andy Riberdy, president of McCoy, Ltd. “We looked at our existing equipment and decided that new digital inkjet technologies could increase our print quality and speed up turnaround times. We felt that we needed to make new investments to enable us to offer our customers more value and effectively compete for new business.”

Conducting a methodical and careful search, McCoy considered a number of wide format inkjet printing platforms, eventually narrowing their focus to the Inca Onset S40 from Fujifilm. “We looked at a number of competing technologies,” Riberdy said, “but what really drove the decision for us was the astounding print quality of the S40, which none of the other platforms approached.”

The ability of the Inca Onset S40 to produce outstanding print quality was a perfect match for McCoy’s demanding requirements. “The S40’s high quality gave us the edge we were looking for,” Riberdy said. “A good portion of our clients do fashion work where flesh tones are critical along with color and gloss. We’re producing near-offset quality on the S40, and our customers have been very impressed.” In addition to higher print quality, McCoy enjoys increased cost savings and higher efficiencies when printing on the Onset compared to traditional offset printing. “Work previously done offset is now being printed on the Onset,” according to Riberdy, “Getting up to color on our offset press results in significant waste which gets extremely costly when printing on high value substrates such as plastic. The Onset can achieve the quality our offset customers demand, and we can gang images on the large Onset printbed to turn jobs quickly with virtually no waste. Customers also benefit from the Onset S40’s ability to print on substrates up to 2” thick. Before, any job over 40-point required mounting and finishing, increasing turnaround time, and cost. Now, we can do it direct to substrate on the Onset saving both time and money.”

“We knew there was more we could be doing for our customers,” said John Toombs, sales manager at McCoy. “There were some jobs we couldn’t compete on, mainly because of run length and quality expectations, but the S40 provides us with lower cost compared with our offset presses, especially on short run lengths. Now we’re able to provide higher quality, shorter run lengths, and faster turnaround times, and pass along cost savings to our customers.”

Color management was another critical aspect of the selection process for McCoy, an area where Fujifilm’s expertise provided a definite advantage. Fujifilm’s Print Performance Team worked with McCoy and helped them to earn G7® certification. All print methods – screen, offset and digital inkjet – are now running to G7 standards and producing consistent color across all three print technologies. In addition, using ColorGATE software, the printer was able to consolidate all of their existing RIPs into one. McCoy now has a single production platform and one operator interface with the ability to drive all equipment in the shop.

“It’s a tremendous achievement for us,” Riberdy said, “to have one standard interface across all platforms. We now run all our inkjet equipment, including competitive inkjet presses and our computer to screen device with one RIP.”

Toombs spoke of one particular customer, a “global communications company,” that has demanding color standards in order to ensure brand integrity. “The company produces a number of campaigns, in varying run lengths and in different formats, some offset, and some wide format. The G7 print method and consistency in our color management gives us the ability to deliver the color integrity they demand, across all of the devices in our shop.”

“New technology is always a good story to tell,” Riberdy said. “We talked to some of our customers about our new capabilities with the S40, and they were absolutely stunned by the quality of the samples we showed them. Customers were constantly asking us when the S40 would be up and running so that they could take advantage of the new technology to produce their next job.” Toombs added, “We’re finding new applications for the S40 every day. This is a real avenue for growth for McCoy.”
