Screen has developed the Truepress Jet W1632UV wide-format UV inkjet printing system.

ROLLING MEADOWS,Ill. — Screen has developed the Truepress Jet W1632UV wide-format UV inkjet printing system. This high-throughput model has been designed specifically for the sign and display industry. Screen will exhibit the Truepress Jet W1632UV at drupa 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany, in Hall 9, Stand A40, and will begin accepting orders, initially targeting North America and the United Kingdom.

In recent years, as mobile devices such as smartphones have rapidly become mainstream, there has been ever-increasing diversification and turnover in relation to advertising promotions. For this reason, POP and graphic display applications, the most in-demand area of the sign and display industry, have been experiencing a growing requirement for output devices that can deliver both faster and more attractive printing of high-volume jobs.

With these industry trends as its background, Screen has developed the Truepress Jet W1632UV as a new addition to its lineup of wide-format inkjet printing systems. In addition to the high-quality printing technology fostered with Screen’s Truepress Jet2500UV and Truepress Jet1600UV-F2 models, this new system provides a high throughput of 1,011.8 square feet (94 square meters) per hour. The adoption of microdroplet printheads, as well as the ability to image on large-size media up to 62.9 x 125.9 inches (1,600 x 3,200 mm), also delivers outstanding expression of gradations.

Together, these features enable the high-speed output of top-quality images for high-volume POP and graphic display applications. Following the adoption of Screen’s proprietary Truepress inks, the Truepress Jet W1632UV can also use light cyan and light magenta inks as an option, in addition to standard CMYK. The system is also equipped with an auto-cleaning function that enables consistently stable output, while its proprietary nozzle mapping function provides continuous printing with no loss of throughput.

Screen plans to continue expanding its lineup for the wide-format inkjet market in order to answer a wide variety of needs for different types of displays ranging from advertising and publicity to indoor and outdoor decoration items. By providing a diverse lineup of solutions in this way, Screen intends to contribute to the growth of the sign and display industry.

Latest hybrid platform brings revolutionary features and low TCO to the digital print sector

Foster City, California – May 2, 2012 – Making its worldwide debut at drupa is EFI’s (Nasdaq: EFII) latest UV-curable digital press that represents a true replacement for analog equipment with the productivity of screen and image quality approaching offset. The 3.2m EFI™ VUTEk® HS100 Pro is a versatile high-speed digital UV press with productivity and image quality that will appeal to screen printers and the commercial sector wanting a cost-effective digital platform to produce longer sheet runs at a low total cost of ownership.

EFI’s Pin & Cure imaging technology, driven by the Orion OS platform, delivers precise ink lay-down for critical color accuracy and consistency, gloss control and an increased color gamut – all with the productivity and digital efficiencies to accommodate more versioning and localization. With impressive throughput speeds at rates of up to 100 boards per hour and up to 50 boards per hour in P-O-P mode, the VUTEk HS100 Pro comes with true greyscale print head technology and up to eight colors, including white and specials, for maximum ink yield and a low cost per print over analog.

“This next generation EFI VUTEk press should win every side-by-side comparison with existing digital presses in terms of offering the best combination of speed, output quality and return on investment,” said Scott Schinlever, senior vice president and general manager of Inkjet Solutions at EFI. “The printer brings greater flexibility and workflow integration, with streamlined and versatile production on longer run lengths. Combined with advanced production features, warning and detection systems, and the Fiery XF proServer, the HS100 Pro is a true 24/7 solution ideal for the most demanding production environments.”

Inca Onset S20 Quality and Fast Turnaround Provide Competitive Advantage to Fuel Growth

Valhalla, N.Y., April 27, 2012 – Business is booming for Total Graphic Solutions (TGS) ofAcworth,Georgia. In 2010, TGS added an Inca Onset S20 from Fujifilm to their digital equipment lineup. Only one year later, TGS added a second Inca Onset S20.

“The quality, production capacity and speed turned our business around,” said Charles Rezac, president, Total Graphic Solutions. “Our customers were asking for faster turnaround and the high quality that we can deliver with the Inca Onset S20.”

Since opening their doors in 2003, TGS has been way ahead of the digital curve. “We’ve always had digital equipment, never any screen or offset,” Rezac said. Starting out with an Inca Columbia in 2003, TGS soon added a 4-color Inca Turbo. Five years later, TGS invested in a 6-color Inca Turbo to replace the cornerstone Inca Columbia. Then in November 2010, the first Inca Onset S20 was installed to replace the 4-color Turbo, boosting business revenue by 50 percent with its increased speed and capacity.

TGS developed a demanding and diversified customer base, ranging from advertising agencies and print brokers to retail clients and major brands who require everything from small format counter cards to large format graphic displays including window clings, floor graphics, standees, point-of-purchase graphics and banners.

“We’ve built our business with Fujifilm and Inca,” Rezac said. “As digital technology evolves and our customer requirements increase, our business has to change to meet their needs and stay competitive. The Turbo was only two years old and yet the Onset S20 is five times faster.” Rezac said that TGS is producing 45 – 50 beds per hour, or one bed per minute with the Inca Onset S20, compared with five minutes per bed with the Turbo. “The Inca Onset S20 has increased our output by a factor of five, allowing us to move jobs on and off the printer more quickly. The increased speed has increased our capacity for more business from our existing clients and allowed us to take in new business as well.”

To illustrate the benefits that the Inca Onset S20 has brought to TGS, Rezac described a monthly project. “One of our customers has a 1,500 piece job with 10 -12 versions. The job can’t be done by screen because of the run size and versions, plus the customer has specific colors and small type. We were running the Turbo four to five days per week, 24 hours each day to get this job done. On the Inca S20, the job is complete in one and a half to two days. That allows our customer to deliver the job to his customer much faster and opens up our printers to do even more work.”

Another benefit of great value to TGS is the color consistency across the two Onset S20s and the other devices in the shop. “Fujifilm applied their extensive expertise in color to match all of our printers, plus the ColorGATE RIP allows us to control everything in the shop with one single RIP,” Rezac said. “We’re able to move a job between the two S20s with no worries about the color, and we can do the job in half the time. With color consistency across all platforms, we’re able to produce a client’s job in less time, accurately and reliably, no matter the size or complexity.”

In addition to the new Inca Onset S20, TGS added an Esko Kongsberg i-XL cutting table to their already powerful lineup. “The Kongsberg i-XL finishing table provides another avenue of support for our customers, and further ability to produce jobs we had to outsource before. We’re able to maintain control over the job from end-to-end, and deliver the complete job to our customers in a lot less time,” Rezac said.

TGS watched sales soar 30 percent year over year, and they’re forecasting the same or better this year. “With the capacity of two Onset S20s,” Rezac said, “that opens up a lot of opportunities for us. We’ve been telling our existing customers about our increased capacity and new capabilities, letting them know we can do all of their jobs. We ask our customers ‘why use three vendors when you can use only one?’ Our customers understand the value of keeping all of their work under one roof—the color consistency, delivery from one location, a single point of contact, and the confidence of working with a proven partner.” Rezac estimates a 20 – 30 percent increase in sales this year from his existing clients alone.

Print Production Managers Now Have 24/7 Anywhere, Anytime Access to Business Information

Las Vegas – April 10, 2012 – With the 13th annual Connect users’ conference underway, EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII) today launched Fiery® Dashboard, a cloud-based service that enables owners and production managers to easily and quickly analyze their operations and make better business decisions. Fiery Dashboard provides 24/7 access to real-time production data from any Internet browser, including mobile phones and tablets. Connect attendees can see Fiery Dashboard in the solutions lab through April 13 at the Wynn; a 30-day free trial is available now (go to:http://w3.efi.com/Fiery/Products/Fiery-Dashboard/Try-For-Free) as well as a video demo (go to: http://w3.efi.com/Fiery/Products/fiery-dashboard).

“From printer uptime and utilization to media use and paper jams, as well as a host of other metrics, now print shop owners and managers can take better control of their operation with our cloud-based Fiery Dashboard service,” said John Henze, vice president of Fiery marketing at EFI. “Users don’t have to be in their shop to stay on top of their operations, and don’t need to stop the presses to get the information necessary to make the right, data-driven business decisions.”

“As the general manager at University Graphic Systems, California Polytechnic State University’s print shop, Fiery Dashboard has helped keep me on top of what’s happening on the production floor and drill down into the reasons, without even having to be at the shop,” said David Messer. “This service provides excellent graphical displays, which in turn have allowed our digital press operators to better understand how reducing waste and downtime positively affects our bottom line.”

With Fiery Dashboard, managers can collect a vast amount of production-level data to monitor and measure what is most important to them. The dashboard view can be customized to focus on specific printers or groups of printers, define targets for engine utilization, or choose different date ranges to measure daily, weekly, quarterly or even annual growth. Managers can easily see engine utilization and status, jobs and pages printed by media and the split between color and black and white. There are also a range of metrics that identify the source of production inefficiencies, from job errors and cancellations to paper jams. Fiery Dashboard also presents system status such as when engines need calibration to ensure color consistency in addition to identifying current level of software updates.

Owners and managers can compare these metrics between any or all Fiery Driven™ printers in the shop to understand relative engine productivity to more efficiently leverage resources across the shop. For instance, an owner may want to track black & white pages printed on a color device to help determine if it makes more sense to purchase a dedicated black & white printer. Another example enables managers to compare printer utilization to help balance workload and optimize time shifts and schedules.

Availability

Fiery Dashboard is available now in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. A 30-day free trial (www.efi.com/fierydashboard) is available now in the U.S. and Canada. To purchase, contact EFI at FieryDashboardSales@efi.com.

Entry-level Production Wide Format UV Roll-to-Roll Printer for Sign, Banner, POP, and Graphics Printers Who Want to Deliver Stunning Images on an Expanded Set of Substrates.

Orlando, Fla. – March 22, 2012 – EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII), a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announces the worldwide introduction of the EFI R3225 at the ISA International Sign Expo (through March 24 in Orlando). The new EFI R3225 is a 3.2-meter roll-to-roll, entry-level production UV inkjet printer that offers stunning image quality, low total cost of ownership, and access to a wide range of flexible substrates at production speeds, all at a price of around $160,000. EFI is showing the new printer in their ISA booth #2302.

The EFI R3225 provides eight-level variable drop grayscale heads for superior quality images, optimized ink usage, and UV-curing inks for access to a wide range of substrates, giving owners the lowest total cost of ownership, greatest profit opportunity, additional addressable markets, and high customer satisfaction. Its UV-curable ink technology allows for the widest range of flexible substrates across countless applications including POP, banners, signage, fleet graphics, exhibition graphics and more.

“Using true eight-level variable drop grayscale technology, the EFI R3225 delivers stunning images, durable prints, and optimized ink usage,” said EFI product manager Scott Wood. “This environmentally friendly printer produces minimal VOC levels, and reduced energy costs. The EFI R3225 uses proven UV-curable ink technology, and is ‘the’ alternative to latex printers for customers looking to migrate their current wide format eco-solvent and solvent printers to a more environmentally-friendly solution, while upgrading their businesses to drive expansion and profitability.”

“The launch of the EFI R3225 is a significant move for print service providers wanting to make the move into 3.2m roll-to-roll wide-format UV-curable production but, until now, have been prevented from doing so because there has been no pedigree platform in the entry-level sector,” said wide-format digital consultant Sophie Matthews-Paul. “Users need the assurance that, even though their investment comes at the low-end, they are benefiting from machine build, technology, ink and overall quality from a high-end manufacturer.”

The EFI R3225 is designed to deliver outstanding output to printers of all levels and sizes. Every aspect of the printer has been evaluated to drive simple daily operation and routine maintenance for optimal up-time without compromising print quality. This includes the design of the software and mechanical features of the printer. Other enhanced features and benefits include print speeds up to 900 square feet per hour with stunning grayscale print quality, along with automated features to maximize productivity.

The EFI R3225 will be available in Q2 2012. For more information, visit EFI at ISA booth 2032, go to www.efi.com or call 800-875-7117.

The Latest Wide Format Printing Equipment, Media, Solvent and UV Digital Inks, Workflow and Color Management Software Provide Effective, Money-Saving Solutions

Valhalla, N.Y., March 15, 2012 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division will display their “end-to-end” solutions for sign making and graphics professionals in booth # 2536 at the ISA International Sign Expo, March 22 – 24, 2012, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Fujifilm will demonstrate its comprehensive range of industry-leading wide format printers, inks and media as well as powerful workflow software and color management tools designed to optimize and maximize output.

“Sign Expo will be a showcase for Fujifilm’s proven, reliable offering of the highest quality products and innovative solutions,” said Masahiro “Sam” Ota, division president, Graphic Systems Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “Visitors to the Fujifilm booth will realize the strength of our promise to enable sign and display graphics providers to grow their businesses, improve productivity and increase profits.”

Among the products on display at the Fujifilm booth at ISA 2012:

Flatbed and Roll Printing Equipment
The new FUJIFILM Acuity® LED 1600 wide format inkjet UV-LED printer will be shown for the first time at Sign Expo, and it is sure to interest sign making and display graphics professionals visiting the show. The Acuity LED uses a proprietary design, patent-pending UV-LED ink curing system to produce exceptional quality display graphics on roll or rigid substrates. LED curing technology provides many benefits including lower energy consumption and longer lamp life when compared to traditional metal halide UV curing technology. These benefits result in lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact, critical to staying competitive in today’s sign industry.

Reaching print speeds up to 215 sq ft/hr while providing outstanding quality output, the Acuity LED 1600 offers best-in-class productivity and provides the capacity and capability to meet customer demand for shorter delivery times. The Acuity LED provides a standard 8-color ink set including CMYK plus light cyan, light magenta, white and clear, and allows printing white or clear ink in a single pass for even greater productivity. Spot clear ink adds special effects to create more value to graphic displays and signs.

Also on display at ISA, the FUJIFILM Acuity® Advance HS UV flatbed printer will demonstrate printing of near-photographic quality images at class-leading production speeds of 433 sq ft/hr. Utilizing greyscale printheads, the 4-color Acuity also offers a white ink option for producing any number of print applications on substrates up to 1.89” thick. The Acuity Advance HS provides precise registration and edge-to-edge printing and offers a roll media option for a cost-effective hybrid solution. The versatility of the Acuity Advance HS makes it the ideal “first” flatbed, and prints direct to board, thereby eliminating mounting and laminating of roll stocks to rigid board.

The new Uvistar2 will be shown for the first time at Sign Expo, and will be particularly interesting for shops looking to make the transition from solvent to UV printing. The Uvistar2 is ideal for POP, banner and billboard printing, and is offered in 3.5 and 5 meter widths to handle most any type of job. A unique feature of the Uvistar2 is new Parallel Drop Size (PDS) technology that jets both 20 and 40-picoliter drops in the same pass, resulting in excellent print quality at fast production speeds. With coverage of up to 1,940 sq ft/liter, FUJIFILM QK inks for the Uvistar2 provide the lowest ink consumption compared to other UV roll printers. Uvistar2 is designed for quick and easy changeovers from one material to another, and has an optional set of flatbed tables that can be used to print on rigid stocks of any length.

Wide Format Media
All printers running live at the booth will feature Fujifilm and Ultraflex wide format media. Sign professionals will be able to view and get “hands-on” access to a variety of media, including a color-matched array of banner materials, premium papers, adhesive backed vinyl, backlit media, canvas, wall and floor graphic media, and perforated window film. All of the media is designed for use on flatbed and roll print equipment and is the perfect complement to Fujifilm’s printer and ink solutions, offering sign printers innovative ways to produce indoor and outdoor signage for virtually any application.

Software Solutions
Fujifilm will demonstrate a number of powerful solutions to common workflow challenges:

FUJIFILM ColorPath® Sync™ is a Web-based tool for creating color curves, aligning output devices and ensuring color consistency across platforms and locations. Backed by Fujifilm’s industry-leading expertise in color consistency, ColorPath Sync allows printers to match output devices and maintain the consistency they achieved when first implementing the G7® specification. ColorPath Sync now uses unique browser “plug in” technology allowing the user to work directly from the browser in the web, eliminating the need for “client type” software. Information from ColorPath Sync can be exported to many popular workflows, which helps eliminate the potential for error. New for ISA 2012, ColorPath now features the integration of ColorGATE into the ColorPath solution. Color measurements can be sent directly to the Cloud-based solution from the popular inkjet RIP solution.

The Fujifilm Edition of ColorGATE Production Server is designed to be the center of your inkjet workflow. With support for over 750 different printers, it’s quite likely that it can drive every proofer, printer and finishing system in your shop. Combined with an outstanding color management engine and Fujifilm’s technical expertise in color and you have a recipe for success. Perhaps most exciting is the addition of the Adobe® PDF Print Engine (APPE). APPE allows the RIP to interpret the native PDF file to increase speed and eliminate problems with transparencies and layers. Let us show you how Fujifilm and ColorGATE can make a difference in the quality and consistency of the work you produce. One solution from Fujifilm—from proof to print to cut.

Esko Automation Engine gives printers the ability to automate their workflow with rock-solid quality control. Esko Automation Engine ensures increased efficiency and throughput in order to save both time and money. It’s an exceptional answer to the daily challenges of print professionals who need to increase quality, reduce errors and drive cost out of the process. Esko Automation Engine comes with extensive MIS integration capabilities and excellent scalability. Using database driven job management, Esko Automation Engine serves as the heart of any size prepress production operation. Through Mac® or PC-based clients, and with an intuitive user interface, operators or administrative personnel can easily interact with the workflow and with its extensive conditional automation capabilities.

Industry-Leading Inks
Want better color from your inkjet printer or need to make an older printer run more efficiently? Fujifilm can help with its Color+ inkjet inks. Color+ inks have been developed to provide optimal performance on a wide variety of inkjet printers from most of the leading suppliers. By adapting the ink chemistry to precisely suit the characteristics of each inkjet device, Fujifilm’s Color + ink delivers stronger, more vibrant colors and reduces the need for printhead purging and maintenance. Much of the success of Color+ lies in Fujifilm’s proprietary MicroV fine pigment dispersion technology. This technology greatly reduces printhead clogging that is often related to large and inconsistent particulate found in some digital inks. In Color+, the loading of pigment, as well as the selection of pigment, offers stronger, brighter colors.

“This year’s Sign Expo gives Fujifilm a special opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to our customers and to the Sign and Graphics industry,” said Mitch Bode, vice president, Wide Format Inkjet and Specialty Ink Systems, Graphic Systems Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “Fujifilm’s expertise and experience in imaging technologies allows us to create reliable, fully-featured products and services designed to maximize revenues and efficiency.
